I first read this book when I was a teenager. I was an avid reader and I picked up this book on my father’s suggestion. The two things I remembered about this book: It was initially very slow and that later, I couldn’t put the book down. I did not remember the story or anything about it.
In the past few years, I have slowly stopped reading books and I really miss that. Even today when I pick up a book, I tend to forget my surroundings. A couple of weeks ago when I was traveling to India, I wanted something to read on the flight. Since it has been so long since I regularly read books, I wasn’t sure what I should pick for my reading list. As I was browsing books on Kindle store, I came across books by Jeffrey Archer and I suddenly remembered Kane and Abel. So, I added it to my list.
It was such a good read. I did not remember the story at all and it was refreshing to read the book. As I started reading the book, I wondered why I thought the early part of the book was boring. This time, I felt every chapter was as interesting as the previous one. It was a perfect companion for my travel and also when I had to stay in the hospital with my dad while he had a procedure.
The best part was, I could put it down in the middle and didn’t feel like I want to get back to it ASAP, but when I picked it up again, I was lost in the book. The careful writing of the scenes, the emotions, the way the characters meet – everything was absolutely wonderful. The intricate way the character’s lives seemed to connect and intertwine kept me reading into the night.
Now I know why I couldn’t keep the book down so many years ago and why it was such a refreshing read. I am glad I picked up this book.
