Sarath has a different theme each week in pre-school. They learn everything related to that theme, read books etc. So, last week their theme was “Reduce Reuse Recycle”. I was very impressed and happy that these kids were being taught the importance of the three R’s. it is amazing to see how much the kids learn at this very young age.
We, as a family are very active about recycling. We recycle everything possible and have been teaching Sarath to recycle as well. We are also redusing and reusing more than ever before. We used to just buy water or pepsi when ever we went outside and were thirsty. To avoid all that bottle waste, we bought a couple of stainless steel water bottles and we made it a habit to carry water in them. When we were kids, my parents always carried water from home. So, this concept is not new to us but, we were just lazy to take a water bottle. But, then we made a serious effort and it was not easy. But, now we have gotten to the state where it has become a habit.
We taught Sarath to see for the recycling symbol. When any of the plastic toys break, we make Sarath throw it in the recycle bin. He now knows that if it is broken and we recycle, it is made into new and comes back to us. That’s an easy concept for kids to remember.
The kids were taught a rhyme related to the recycling theme and here it how it goes:
Reduce Reuse Recycle Recycle Recycle
Reduce Reuse Recycle – it’s easy to do
Because Your World is My World and My World is Your World
Reduce Reuse Recycle – It’s easy to do.
I loved this rhyme and especially the part “Your World is My World and My World is Your World” – if everybody on this planet really understood this, then, it would be an amazing world to live in. I just hope people across the globe realize the importance of keeping our planet free of unnecessary waste and teach the younger generation the importance of Reduce Reuse and Recycle.
